Wellington by Bus
Metlink offers an excellent public transport system with buses and trolley buses. You can buy an all day central Wellington Day tripper bus pass. The local bus system is operated by Stagecoach and offers frequent services around Wellington. Most buses can be located outside the Train station and the major city bus stop is in Courtenay Street. The City Circular buses are the most useful ones to catch to get around the CBD, they travel in a loop taking in a lot of Wellington's main points of interest. Timetable and fare information is available from Ridewell (0800 801 7000)

Wellington by Bike
If you don't mind riding into headwinds or coping with a bit of blustery weather then cycling is a good option for getting around Wellington .There are a couple of companies who hire mountain bikes for the day.
The Penny Farthing Cycle Shop, 89 Courtenay Place (04 385 2279)
Pins Cycles, Corner of Willis and Boulcott Streets (04 472 4591)

Wellington by Car
There are many car hire places but the prices can get expensive, sometimes it's best to leave your car hire until you depart from Wellington, as it is cheaper to hire further on in Picton.

Wellington by Foot
A small compact city centre makes walking around very easy.

Wellington by Train
There are four main train routes that service the Wellington area and they leave from the Wellington Train station The services start from 6am and usually run right through to midnight. Timetables can be viewed at the train station or picked up from the Tourist Information Centres.
